Exciting project week all about the fire department

In the past week, everything here revolved around the topic of the fire department. As part of a varied and educational project week, the children worked closely with the educators to explore important topics related to fire safety and emergencies. Among other things, they discussed emergency numbers, looked at pictures of the fire department, and read suitable books. The children also had the opportunity to be creative and design their own buttons. 

The highlight of the week was the visit of two very special guests: two firefighters from the local fire department, who brought plenty of excitement and wide-eyed amazement. Alongside many thrilling impressions, the main focus was on understanding the importance of safety and how children should behave correctly in the event of a fire. 

First, the firefighters showed the children the full set of firefighting gear – including uniform, helmet and breathing mask – and explained what each part is used for. Afterwards, everyone went outside to see the fire engine, which was clearly the secret star of the visit. The children were allowed not only to admire it from the outside, but also to explore it from the inside and discover which tools are used in an emergency. 

Once the children had already gained a good impression of the world of firefighters, a fire drill was carried out. Together, the educators and children left the building via the emergency exits and gathered at the assembly point – so everyone could practice what an evacuation would look like in a real emergency and why it is so important to keep escape routes clear. 

It was an exciting, cheerful and at the same time very educational day for the children, on which they learned a lot about fire safety and the right behaviour in an emergency – playfully, but with a serious background.
